The President’s Office of Finance and Planning in Zanzibar is improving waste management and living conditions of the local population through the Boosting Inclusive Growth for Zanzibar project (BIG-Z). Building on the achievements of the previous Zanzibar Urban Services Project, which supported solid waste management in urban municipalities, BIG-Z aims to further enhance service delivery with the construction of 125 new waste collection points across Unguja and Pemba islands.
HYDEA is providing consultancy services for the project. In Phase 1, we will handle the design of the collection points, including site assessments, environmental and social management plans, and preparation of bidding documents. This phase also includes planning of training and knowledge transfer to local stakeholders. Phase 2 will focus on construction supervision, contract management, and monitoring of environmental and safety safeguards. The project will conclude with a 12-months defects liability period and the final handover of completed works.
